Snowcrash :
The total breakdown of an artist dressingroom

Visitors of the Netcongestion Streaming
Media Festival at the club 'De Melkweg' in
Amsterdam witnessed a unique and
shocking event. After the band 'Snowcrash'
left the stage a big screen showed how they
totally destroyed their dressing room,
leaving the staff in shock. Belongings were
confiscated and the police was called. Until it
became clear that the destruction was just a
manipulation of reality; Welcome to the
world of 'Snowcrash'.

But what exactly happened in this club
named 'De Melkweg'?

After the performance the band
'Snowcrash' leaves the stage,
filmed by a camera man;
Their exit is broadcasted
on movie screens in the main hall.
As soon as the band members enter the
dressing room they start smashing
everything to pieces.

This 'spontanious' action is followed live by
the audience. And hell brakes loose.

The staff rushes upstairs to the dressing
room. They completely loose their minds
convinced that what they see is happening
right now. Once on site they find the
'Snowcrash' members in their torn and
stained clothes and a totally ruined
dressing room. However, what they witness
is different from what they just experienced
on the screen; the graffity on the wall says:
"What Is Real?", in stead of "Snowcrash
Media Crash".

Blinded by anger they don't notice any of
this and start screaming: "Snowcrash, once
in De Melkweg, never again!" and "You are
completely out of your minds! This is going
to cost you a lot of money...". And then the
equipment of 'Snowcrash' is confiscated.

During all this commotion 'Snowcrash'
restores the dressing room miraculously in
its original state, which only takes a few
minutes. They ask the staff to look at it
again...

Devastated they look through the doorway.
This seems to be impossible. The room looks
like nothing has happened at all...

Two weeks earlier the band visits the club
in broad daylight, packed with trunks full of
stuff. Without permission and without
anybody knowing anything about it, the
band calmly breaks down
the entire dressing room.
Inside the trunks was the big hidden secret:
a copy of the furniture from the dressing
room. Everything is being recorded and the
room is being restored in its original state,
with a lot of effort.

The wrecked furniture, the torn clothes and
the tape are being saved for the show
two weeks later...

The Big Trick:
The band members leave the stage --
followed by a camera -- and the live
images are deceitfully being replaced by
those of the previous made video tape.
The audience witness a destruction that
in fact took place two weeks earlier.

Back in the dressing room 'Snowcrash'
laughs their heads off. They can see
excactly how the audience reacts.
The band members rush into their
smirched and torn clothes from the
earlier recording. They also quickly
throw some pieces of broken glass
around, hide mirrors, trash cans are
emptied on the floor and a different
graffity (just water paint) is applied on
the wall, saying: "What is Real?"

When the staff arrives at the scene they
totally freak out. But when Snowcrash
restores everything in only five
minutes, everybody get's confused;
this simply isn't possible. With the
video images vividly in their minds they
miss the fact that the reality of it all
can't be compared with the mess
shown on the movie screens. Slowly
they come to their senses, after
Snowcrash takes them through the
whole scheme.

The first virtual dressing room demolishing
is performed by 'Snowcrash' on the 7th of
November in the year 2000, as main act on
the Netcongestion Streaming Media Festival,
De Melkweg, Amsterdam - Netherlands.
