Welcoming Papelbon To the 2008 Mlb All Star Game

Pap didn't say he should close the game. He said he wouldn't be Jonathan Papelbon if he didn't want to close the game out. But he thought that Rivera should finish the the game, he called him the Godfather of Closers. He said one of the things he owes to this game is to let the elder statesman go ahead of him.

is the all star selection suppost to be about the best players of the year? or the best players at a certain position over time? correct me if im wrong, but i think its just from a single season. so, wouldnt they base who should play, and when on the same criteria?

Listen, you must be new to the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry, because Yankee fans know that Papelbon is a good closer. He said something dumb (the whole "Mariano Rivera...Yankee Stadium...blah blah blah" comment") and Yankee fans jumped on him for it. He's a Red Sox player and he got booed and taunted at Yankee Stadium. He's not the first and he won't be the last. A-Rod and Jeter get booed and get nasty things chanted at them at Fenway. It's all part of the fun of the rivalry.

There are some of us that were alive in the 70's though. 77, 78, 96, 98, 99,00 . So I've seen 6 in my 37 years. Sox in that span won 2.

Yankee fans talk a lot of trash, but no one brags about being in first place in the middle of the season. I mean, it's like those bushleaguers from New England planning their parade a week before the Super Bowl. A lot can happen.

The Rays haven't won though, and they should enjoy their success, they're a good team and they're for real.
