  • Vulture row is a ...

Vulture row is a look out area up on the center island of the carrier. It allows non-flight deck personnel to watch the aircraft lunch and recover from a safe spot. On the John F. Kennedy it would of been two decks above where the second camera on this video was.

  • I can't believe ...

I can't believe this video in on YouTube. This was during pilot quals aboard the John F Kennedy (CV-67) before our 97 Med cruise. The F-18 is a Charlie series from our sister squadron VFA-15. The pilot made one too many adjustment and landed sideways causing the port strut to collapse Luckily the hook caught the 4 wire. Those are two of our (VFA-87) F-18s in line for the bow cats that he was heading straight for. I was in vulture row and saw this live. I miss Carrier life!!!!!

Me thinks several of the deck crew were also looking for fresh underwear after that landing as well. Bet the seat cushion on the F 18 had some pucker marks.
