Circa 1979. This spontaneous dialogue between Johnny and Doc is perhaps one of the funniest television moments ever. This clip was recorded from the 18th Anniversary Show, which turned out to be the only time this exchange was featured in it's entirety. If you have a chance to purchase the 18th Anniversary show, I would highly recommend it.
This is absolutely the funniest six minutes of The Tonight Show ever...Johnny was an absolute GENIUS!! Thank you for posting!!!!

I'll go ahead and echo others' sentiments about this segment by saying it's by far one of the funniest bits on "The Tonight Show" ever. Hearing Johnny laugh like that does a heart good.
one comment, it has never gotten any better than this, who knew doc could hold his own against the "great one", have seen this 100 times and still not enough, thanks for the complete post, doc's last line-priceless

I guess we can thank NBC's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade coverage for this moment, since Ed anchored that special for a decade.
It's genius AND magic at the same time. If it can make someone with a cold smile, it's doing its job.

It's one of my favorite moments from the Tonight Show and has become a true classic. I always thought that it was ironic that although Ed sat next to Johnny 90-95% of the time this exchange with Doc is considered to be the best ever.

I actually remember watching this "live" with my brother, while I was home from college (for Thanksgiving). Doc was simply on a roll. I have never seen Carson laugh so much as in this clip.
