you can sweep but you cant trip your opponent you have to move your opponent into your leg.

did you know wrestling is over 7,000yrs old. There are hyrogliphics in egygt that are dated at least 5000 B.C. showing wrestling takedowns and ground work.

Greco-Roman has nothing to do with Greece or Rome. It was first practised in France as show wrestling in the 19th century. Real Greek wrestling employed an enormous number of techniques, no lower body holds were barred, even small joint manipulation was allowed. It was mostly submission wrestling as well - an opponent raised their finger in submission. It bears no relationship to modern Greco-Roman wrestling. I love watching Greco.

Judo vs wrestling used to happen all of the time in the late 19th and early 20th. Matches went something like this. If the rules were any thing close to wrestling then the wrestler would win. If the match was fought in a gi (judo uniform) the judoka would win. Because of diffrence in rules in both sports matches were desided mostly by coin flip. Heads=wrestling rules, tails=judo rules or something simular to that.

Despite it's name Greco-Roman is really a french style. It came about in the 19th century. So Greco-Roman is not thousands of years old like many would like you to belive. The closest relative to ancient greek/roman stlye wrestling would be Turkish oil wrestling. The ancient greeks and romans would rub their bodies down with olive oil and fight in dirt pits.

It comes from the grabbing on the ears and hard slams.
