Hear Motorola Solutions CEO Greg Brown as he speaks at his alma mater, Rutgers University, during the 2012 graduation. Along with delivering the University's 246th commencement address, Brown received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Rutgers University. He graduated from Rutgers in 1982 with a bachelor of arts degree in economics and is now a member of the executive committee of the Rutgers' Board of Trustees and the Rutgers University Foundation Board of Overseers.
Musing upon the influence of a Rutgers' professor, Brown said:"He showed me that it is more important to be interested than to be interesting. And, he sparked in me something that I carry every day -- this sense of perpetual curiosity."
And his closing thoughts: "You'll soon learn what matters is not what happens to you, but how you react to what happens to you."
A $1.5 million gift from Motorola Solutions -- coupled with an additional, anonymous matching gift of $1.5 million -- will fund groundbreaking research to find treatments for stroke, Alzheimer's disease, brain and spinal cord injuries, and other debilitating conditions. In honor of Greg's leadership, the $3 million in gifts will establish the Gregory Q. Brown Endowed Chair in Rutgers University's Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience.
