    All I know is that in the TH-57 (Bell 206) we are pretty much prohibited from descending greater than 800 fpm when we are 40 kias or below and that guy was dropping as fast or faster than that, in my limited experienced opinion. Good call on your part. And yes, of course even experienced pilots make mistakes.

    yeah, u can see his decent is clearly higher then 300ft/min with not alot of airspeed, set himself up big time for it.. was a silly mistake really-not1 i would expect a pilot being able to fly a twin turbine would make but hey, everyone makes mistakes i guess

    Definatley a classic example of Vortex ring state. Which is the helicopter decending into its own downwash. As for the people not running for cover, it wouldnt of been apparent until the last second that something was wrong, i dont think the pilot even knew until after he had turned and then tried to bring the collective in to arrest his rate of decent.
