Providing a supreme being exists then it is possible he could do "anything" as you say - the issue is that no one ever wants to go into detail about this. What existed prior to your "god"? If he's so intelligent and could create complex systems, create the entire universe and have life evolve over billions of years, why would he sit around (I'm assuming a being of this caliber would not have simply sprang into existence and had this great idea to create a universe) and do nothing for so long?

Furthermore, who is this "they" who said the earth was flat? I will educate you, if you care to listen, that it was prior to the 4th century BC that people thought the earth was flat, and it appears that science has effectively proven that it is, in fact, spherical. Actually if you watch the first episode of Carl Sagan's Cosmos he explains how they figured this out. A flat earth was not a theory, it was an assumption, like how the world started through the work of god(s) was/is an assumption.

A theory is actually formed from testable hypotheses in which the results have been achieved in many experiments, has been widely published in scientific journals and has support in the academic setting (something I'm sure you've never heard of). jesusnthedaisychain,it does say somewhere that god made adam from earth,or something along those lines.who knows?God can do ANYTHING,like the thingy,that he caused the big bang(created universe,matter).think about it.he really could of done just THAT.make matter,make planets,earth,created life,craft everything in being here. just like raising children,or crafting a model of something.Anyway let whoever's job it is to decipher it well,decipher it. I was thinking something along those lines. Obviously there were plants, algae and tress at this time, and it's because of them we now have Oxygen.

At first it was absorbed by the ocean, then at ~2.7 bya it started to get into the atmosphere. It took a long time for it to increase to a level living things could use of course, and an even longer time (about the cambrian explosion 540 mya) to gradually increases to present levels.

To say that God guided evolution is only one step away from saying that God made us from dirt. That line of reasoning will not lead to truth or knowledge (the two things Scientists strive for and hold the most dearly), and thus your compromise would deal more harm than good.

All in all, creationists are akin to children who refuse to believe in Santa Claus isn't real. Well, that's too bad; the fairy tale has ended.

Please educate yourself on the meaning of the word "theory" in scientific terms. I didn't even finish reading your comment since I already know it's based on a misinterpretation of the word "theory". While we're at it, I suppose gravity is also just a theory? Is god holding us down to the ground?
