turbines?? they are a lot more efficient in the power to weight ratio are of engines
By McLarenMercedes [Affiliate User] 1208579574 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeactually turbines are a lot more efficient in the power to weight ratio for engines area, and they can burn almost any volatile fuel too and are more fuel efficient than piston engines. Lotus ran a turbine engined F1 car in 1971, the Lotus-Pratt&Whitney
By McLarenMercedes [Affiliate User] 1208579512 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removehate to point out this to you but the last time engine power was the most important factor in making a GP winner was in the 1950's, today all F1 designers will tell you 75 percent of the performance comes from a well designed chassis. In 2002 BMW was widely believed to be the strongest engine by far,but since the Williams FW24 was nowhere near as good as the Ferrari F2002 that didn't matter, and this is also one of the reasons BMW left Williams to make their own team...
By McLarenMercedes [Affiliate User] 1208579182 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveEver heard the BRM V16 Formula 1 car from 1951? Sounds like nothing on earth. The Ferrari flat12 from the 70's sounded cool too as did the Honda V12 from 1991
By McLarenMercedes [Affiliate User] 1208578666 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveFor your info a Top fuel car with nitromethanol and supercharger makes around 7500hp from 8,2litres which is 915hp/litre (no problem it is not racing more than a few seconds anyway) when a Brabham-BMW 1,5litre straight 4 turbo made over 1400hp in 1983(!) which is 933hp/litre (and it is supposed to last for 1 hour of qualifying) and that was baed on the BMW M10 roadcar engine designed in 1961. Look up the BMW M10 engine on wikipedia
BMW's own dyno only went to 1400hp.. Power vs displacement..
top fuel dragsters have monstrous superchargers too and have some potent nitrofuel and are designed to be raced for a few seconds, they also have a lot bigger displacement
will they rev to 19000rmp? and last for two long races at over 380miles plus qualifying?
fuel efficiency? powerband? drivebility? none of these crucial factors need to be taken into consideration for dragsters
ever seen what high tech materials they use in F1 engines? how light they are? power to weight NA engines??
Plus qualifying
By ed200007 [Affiliate User] 1208550596 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveEngine power for displacement a F1 engine is in a league of its own. 300hp/litre is unheard of and remember Superchargers and Turbos do NOT count.
Make another engine that can be revved to 19000rpm for two races 600kilometres each, that's 370miles.
they wish, they rebuild after every pass.
By kosmo177 [Affiliate User] 1208342844 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeswap that in a civic hatch
By gixxer1168 [Affiliate User] 1208338603 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAre they 2.4litere also? Hell, 8000hp is utherworldly for a 2.4litre engine?! I never knew it was possible to bang 8000hp out of a 2.4!
By Wiegieboard [Affiliate User] 1208329825 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWhy is that only asians and europeans have all of the intelligence to enjoy this stuff! aww man
By tkktkt [Affiliate User] 1208167537 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removelike all other good old america v8 they run faster on e85
By Hellaciousoutlaw [Affiliate User] 1208024738 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeyeah, theyre good for what ? 5 kilometres before a rebuild ?
