Mobile phones are one of the most common pieces of technology used in our daily lives. Some reports put the number of cell phones sold in 2007 worldwide at 1.1 billion. With that number of cellular phones sold in 2007 alone, the market is very hot leading to expanded research and development of new handsets.

Nokia and the University of Cambridge have teamed up on a new concept phone called the Morph described as a nanotechnology concept device. The concept design was launched at the "Design and the Elastic Mind" exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

According to Nokia, the Morph is a concept intended to demonstrate how devices in the future could be stretchable and flexible allowing the user to change the shape of their device on a whim. The nanotechnology construction is capable of providing users with flexible materials, transparent electronics and self-cleaning surfaces.

Nokia Chief Technology Officer Dr. Bob Iannucci said in a statement, "Nokia Research Center is looking at ways to reinvent the form and function of mobile devices; the Morph concept shows what might be possible."

Nokia claims that certain elements of the Morph could be integrated into high-end handheld devices in the next seven years. Nokia adds that nanotechnology could at some point lead to low cost manufacturing solutions providing complex devices at low prices.

University of Cambridge Professor Mark Welland added, "Developing the Morph concept with Nokia has provided us with a focus that is both artistically inspirational but, more importantly, sets the technology agenda for our joint nanoscience research that will stimulate our future work together."

Nokia made headlines earlier this month when the German government demanded $60.5 million in a refund of subsidies it provided.

So the elites are always talking about how they are for vast de-population, and those technocrats have big time access to these technologies, and they wanna wipe you out as they said. What do you think they are going to do with nano tech? Yeah think about it, this is serious.

  • u realise if we get ...

u realise if we get to a time where technology for everyday use is this advanced, what would war be like? Technology like this is always available to governments first, so we could technically be wiped out before this ever goes public, due to getting nuked.

mryumyums1234, I must admit, prooney is right, this is hurtling towards us, this will happen in our life time. But that is the scary thing, that soon our lives will be comletely automated, and all we will have to do is push some buttons and a household task will be done. And when, not if, our civilization falls, we would lose the machine power we depend upon. That is what is terrifying.

123Ognian, you're right, I continuiosly dread what governments might do to the people of their OWN country if given half a chance and a mobile phone. This will, of course, not go unoticed by governments so it is still possible Nokia could be designing the next Exaset missiles, whether they like it or not.

  • dude, this is ...

dude, this is possible in the next 10 years. in the 90's computers were gettign big. Barely 20 years later, we have connectivity to anywhere in the world in our pockets. nano technology is already with us. and this is very possible, within the next 5-15 years. maye it will be designed by comupters, not smarter than us though. it takes maybe 11% of an AVERAGE HUMAN BEING's brain power to make a super computer. What could we do with even 20% 100% INIMAGINABLE THINGS.

  • A few years ago ...

A few years ago there was a statement "double chip size every year." Now this isn't just a statement but pretty much a law. Millions of dollars are spent doubling chip size. It's like how in you get paid a penny for a days work and then double it every day so at the beginning you make like nothing but at the end of a month you make millions in a day. So I don't think this is as complex and space consuming as you say. I expect that in as little as a decade we could see this realized on the market

  • if we dont get ...

if we dont get thrown back to the dark ages with a civilization collapsing catastrophe. such as a meteor, pandemic, nuclear war, or when we run out of oil and dont have any way to transport people and things. think 50 years my friend, this wont be designed by a human being. this will be designed by a super intelligent computer hundreds of times more intelligent then the average human brain. the programming and complexity of a device like this would take humans lifetimes to create.

  • the amount of ...

the amount of programming required for a computer system as complex as nano technology is so complex and large it would take a team of hundreds of programmers lifetimes to do it. before we see this technology we will have to make machines smarter then humans dedicated to programming things such as this. our entire civilization will change with the development of self aware computers that can think and design for us. this is just a small possible byproduct of something called the singularity.
