Shadows of the Fire from Fayetteville, NC performing at the 2006 East Coast Belly Dance Competition. The music is "Walk Like an Egyptian" by Hakim off the Desert Roses 3" cd. Check out our web site at http://geocities.com/sothdance
I watched this vid with my friend and we were kinda surprised at first. But after we finished watching it, we both thought it was pretty cool. I mean, how many other people would you meet everyday that are willing to do that and have the skill to? This vid is awesome the way it is and I will definitely show this to my friends ; )

By skateryenny [Affiliate User] 1215452390 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWhile I would not choose "Walk like an Egyptian" for anything but a comical routine, I do not pick up anything that sounds like the Shahada in the entrance. I wouldn't worry too much about this, but if you're really concerned, shadows of the fire, find someone YOU TRUST who speaks Arabic to interpret for you. Problem solved. :)
By bellydancr78 [Affiliate User] 1215090214 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIs there a way to check the meaning of music prior to using it? On the cd it says the name of the song "Spirit of the Ancestors" shows a deep mystical side with Faruk's powerful, searching voice. Halay concludes the recording with an uplifting, joyous celebration and driving rhythm. No where does it say anything about religious implications and that worries me. Do you know of a website that can help in the future. I think they should have at least put something on the cd to say what it is.

By HecateDancing [Affiliate User] 1214425630 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI thought the dancing was great and creative. I liked pretty much everything except the choice of music for the entrance. It may not have been meant to upset or offend but is highly offensive to Muslims that 1. you dance to the Shahada (our profession of faith) 2. Your dancing to it in clothing that reveals your body. You choreographed a beautiful enterance piece to it but the fact remains that it's not appropriate to dance to religious songs of this nature. Please be careful in the future.
