What the newspapers said: Rangers ratings . .
4-4-2
Average rating 5.3
6 Neil Alexander Did not show complete command of his area but was fortunate that Bougherra and Weir mopped up the bombardment. When he was beaten, he was saved by the post.
5 Steven Whittaker Normally adventurous but had his hands full coping with Falkirks duo, Tom Scobbie and Burton OBrien. Booked for first-half scythe on Scobbie
7 David Weir Composed defending, he never put a foot wrong. His solitary venture forward almost yielded a goal. Only ruffled when Higdon appeared
8 Madjid Bougherra Rangers best performer. Strong, aggressive, energetic despite carrying an injury and won crucial aerial duel with Higdon when Falkirk laid siege
5 Sasa Papac Showed a far greater willingness than Whittaker to get forward but not until the second half. Quick thinking at throw-in at start of second half set up Novos goal
6 Steven Davis Found himself given a breathless pursuit by Falkirks passing. Moved from usual role on right into centre in second half and that stifled Falkirk threat
5 Barry Ferguson Last game for Rangers? If so, he will have enjoyed the outcome more than the performance. His industry was never in doubt, but no sign of creativity
4 Lee McCulloch Played in midfield unit totally overrun by Falkirk, and was second to every ball. That underlined his lack of first-team football recently
4 Kyle Lafferty The striker remains an enigma. Played wide on left before switching to attack when Boyd went off. Persistent poor control. Far too keen to go down
3 Kris Boyd Scotlands top marksman was completely anonymous, apparently a victim of dehydration. His work-rate evaporated requiring the introduction of Novo
6 Kenny Miller Trademark running of the channels but there were few chances to finish. The only Rangers player to show any invention, but that diminished when moved out right
Substitutes Nacho Novo 7 (for Boyd, 46min); Steven Naismith (for Miller, 85); Christian Dailly (for Lafferty, 88). Not used Allan McGregor, Danny Wilson. Booked Whittaker, Dailly, Novo.
Falkirk ratings
4-3-3
Average rating 6.8
6 Dani Mallo Only person who never broke sweat in first half as he watched his team swarm over Rangers. Undone by Novos audacity but untroubled after that
8 Jackie McNamara Rolled back the years with a display that saw him contain Lafferty and prove the most constant source of threat with overlaps and crosses
6 Darren Barr Underlined why he has been given a Scotland call-up by putting Boyd in the shade. Also contributed great cross from right to set up McCanns first-half chance
6 Gerard Aafjes Illustrated why he was preferred to ageing Steven Pressley. Had pace to cope with Lafferty and the crisp passing to provide the link between Mallo and midfield
8 Thomas Scobbie The local hero can be rightly proud of a performance that is a credit to Falkirks youth system. Frequently charge down the wing to terrorise Whittaker
7 Patrick Cregg Arsène Wenger would have been proud of his former player. Laced his display with crisp, accurate passing and a pressing game that nullified Ferguson
7 Scott Arfield 100 per cent Falkirk, 100 per cent energy. Ran himself to a standstill. Scotland Under21 midfield player provided searing runs and always in space to receive passes
7 Kevin McBride An unsung hero among Falkirk fans, yet was a vital influence in the way Hughess side played. Moved in from right and linked the play like a metronome
7 Burton OBrien Showed adventure early on with long-range shot and was the prime creator of Falkirks attacking threat, linking with Scobbie. Covered every blade of grass
7 Neil McCann Given a glorious chance midway through first half but volleyed Barrs cross just wide, then clipped top of the crossbar. Replaced for last 15 minutes
6 Steve Lovell Energetic display in first half, even diverting Weirs header over the bar as he covered back, but not enough where it counts in opposition box
Substitutes Michael Higdon 5 (for McBride, 74 min); Mark Stewart 5 (for McCann, 74); Carl Finnigan 5 (for Cregg, 74). Not used Robert Olejnik, Steven Pressley. Booked McNamara, Barr, Finnigan.
Referee Craig Thomson.
