The first real look at the new Star Trek Online, in development at Cryptic. The project was handed down from Perpetual (who went bankrupt) and has nothing do to with that version as it was all made from scratch.

In this trailer we see the first in-game footage of the game. The video was shown yesterday at VegasCon 08, where it was introduced by Leonard Nimoy.

Star Trek Online takes place several decades after Star Trek: Nemesis, the last movie. It will be released on PC and Xbox 360 and will allow players to captain starships (small ones even from the start) and both the Federation and the Klingon Empire are playable factions. All the familiar races are included and it's possible to make a new one with the character customizer.

Cryptic Studios is most known for City of Heroes (and the expansion pack City of Villains). A side from Star Trek Online they also have Champions in the development pipeline, which is another superhero MMORPG.
