im a poet myself and there is absolutely nothing ugly about this song... i love it.. it is a sad song but it was made to help us realize something.. we all interp. this differently, but we all see the potential that it holds!! this band along with bands like matchbox20, 3rd eye blind, shawn mullins.. they should all be saluted...

also the title freshman is to represent how we all are freshman in life at some point, tho we always feel we know it all.

its about him and his gf and living with the fact she had an A******n , and tho the line "she took a weeks worth of valium and slept" insinuates she commited suicide, in reality she really didnt, it was just for poetic purposes.

When Vander Ark wrote this song he may have been writing about himself, but he also became a voice for the countless men who and women who are affected by the spiritual and emotional pain of A******n Yes, there's guilt on both sides. And in some cases even death... Did you know a teenage girl is SIX TIMES more likey to commit suicide within the first six months of an A******n ?

Kudos to Vander Ark for baring his soul and admitting his mistake through such a beautiful song...
