I like. Its nice seeing the Dead play without huge digital racks behind them. This is when they were just a raw band digging what they did. I like their newer stuff too, but this is classic.

Heard the dead as a kid in the 60s and saw them throughout the 70s until the end, thank you for a real good to all involved.

I'm a lefty, it's our duty not to let out icons get absorbed into pop culture incorrectly. Itw as meant in a friendly way not an "Altamont kick you death way" :)

  • I know who Harry ...

I know who Harry Bridges was , he was a friend of Paul Robeson and both men would have disliked ok recoiled greatly from what the Angels have stood for. If you hear ghosts great that';s what good music does but any leftist ghosts are with Robeson and Abbie Hoffman not The Angels! Crikey! that's like saying Menzies or Malan is the heir to Biko's legacy!

  • "The Angels are ...

"The Angels are heirs to the outlaws who lived by the gun in the old west."

an all white right wing pro Vietnam war/Vet no women allowed biker gang has ABSOLUTELY NO CONNECTION TO THE WOBBLIES OR THE Communist Party! Sonny Barger would be the first to tell you that& he is the king of the Hells Angels. The GD while not apolitical are not leftists either. they are actually Ann coulter's favorite band and she is welcome back stage. i love them but not for their politics.

I agree. I was a big fan from 66-74. I think they hit their peak when this video was made about 70-71. But the "Wall of Sound" period was aweful good too. With only Billy on drums, "Europe '72" now that's some great music.

  • Forgive me dear, ...

Forgive me dear, I'm overseas and looking at America through a strange lens. Anarcho-syndicalism was part of "Red" radicalism in the late nineteenth century. Read London's radical writings like "The Iron Heel". Consider San Francisco's radical history -the only American city to hold a general strike led by Harry Bridges - a communist longshoreman. The Angels are heirs to the outlaws who lived by the gun in the old west. I hear ghosts of these characters in Workingman's Dead - that's great art.

  • Jack London was ...

Jack London was never a figure head of the IWW he was a supporter but Eugene debs and Big Bill Haywood were their men as well Elizabeth Gurley Flynn. The IWW were anarchists not communists-very important distinction so there can be no figureheads. The Grateful Dead, though it's a quaint thought I have no connection to The Wobblies either. I like The Dead but The Hells Angels are about as far as you can get from the IWW and so is Bohemian Grove.

  • It was everyone's ...

It was everyone's fault. too many new avenues of individual freedom that were being explored for the first time. In all honesty the only thing that shocked my during Gimme Shelter was that the stones waited so long to play which is awful, but as they were 25/26 years old who can really expect punctuality.

  • You make some very ...

You make some very good points But Jerry and the Dead had used the Hells Angels for security at many of the Dead's shows and when the Stones needed security and didn't want to use the police, Jerry recommended the Hell's Angels. Now of course the account of this will differ, with the Stones saying this did happen and the Dead and Scully replying that they didn't so in the end, who the hell knows? Maybe one day someone will be able to tell Meridith Hunter's family.
