500 whales were saved from an illegal slaughter by the Japanese government, partly due to the efforts of Sea Shepherd. Sea Shepherd is a direct-action marine conservation group that doesn't protest, but also doesn't aim to injure lives, however, does aim to stop illegal slaughtering on the high seas. This video depicts the Sea Shepherd anti-whaling campaign in 2007, what whaling is, how it is illegal and how Sea Shepherd contributed in stopping to stopping this illegal whaling.
