I think he did a fine job...

The coolest thing though is where he is playing it. In the middle of a club. This is so good for classical music.

I'm not crazy about most of his work. For instance his Saint Saens is very weak. I have no desire to hear his Haydn. I think he is meant to play works like these.

  • I respect maisky ...

I respect maisky for his mastery of the cello. But in this video is different, he does not play like this usually. Maybe musically but not technically. Maybe something came up. And i agree with you about people giving bad comments not even thingking of the reasons why this performance is like this.

and for your information: when this was filmed at yellow loung the club (no concert hall!) was really packed, quite smoky and the acoustics in the place were far from perfect for classical music.

for me it's very suprising to see how heated & often insulting the discussion/comments about this piece have become since i posted it. makes me wonder how stuck up their own a*** some fans of classical music are. i'm 'feeling' the piece - although i must admit that i can't really comment on maisky's interpretation as i'm no expert.

I agree fully with the answer that cotalech sent you. I myself am a pianist as well, and, by the way, I remember Karin Lechner very well from the master class with Nikita Magaloff I took part in. She was 17 at the time, and was a stunning talent!!

Soy gaditano y la musica del maestro hay que tocarla con el alma mas que con la virtud.

Y Maisky lo hace con creces.

    -----------

Manuel would be proud of this interpretation, in his music like in flamenco or blues the tecnic is less important than if you show or not your soul in the piece. I am from his town and this video has shaken me, thanks for post it :)
