yeh gd point, i did realize the stairway to heaven riffs in ther, but yeh considering this was written before POD, the idea is that tenacious d dont think they can make a better song than one/stairway to heaven and so they claim to have made a song but have since forgotten it, though i believe the song tht they sang at that time probs wanst stairway coz of the lyrics "the song we sang on that fateful night, it doesn't actually sound anything like ths song."so yes ther is references to both there

That's what they make it sound like in the movie... But in all reality they are playing something similar to stairway to heaven, although 'one' by metalica is what inspired them to attempt to write the greatest song in the world. One is what Jack Black considered the greatest... But yeah, I think that's why they put that part into the movie. Stir up some contraversy lol
