Random life change. The Universe gave me a change that I requested, and it happened to be here in Japan. It has been a rollercoaster ride every since for the past 20 years.

Oh yes, we do. The one we have was put in when this house was built about 15 years ago so it's not at this level of technology, but all the new houses have new toilets = new technology. It's extremely common and not just some "industrial thing".

But would Japanese people actually have these in their homes?

Why do you want to move to Tokyo? Just for something new to try? If so, try natto. It's a new experience, and probably a lot cheaper than a move across the globe.

Yes, I can speak JapANESE. I live in the country so it would be difficult if I couldn't.

(Just so that you know, "jap" is kind of insulting, like calling chinese "chinks", blacks "N****rs ", hispanics "spicks", arabs "ragheads" and the like - I wouldn't use it too often because eventually someone will jump down your throat.)

Affordable for families, of course. They cost a few grand for these babies. Tell you you what you can do... after you have gone to the bathroom, just hang the backside over the sink, turn on the water, and in the good ol Euro bidet style, use your hand to rinse. Then dry, wash hand and presto!

How affordable? Would a college student be able to get one :D Cuz this college student needs one, badly!

It's NICE sitting on heated ones, especially when you can adjust the temperature so that they are warm in the biting cold, or just take the chill off. It's nice not to gasp when you sit on the toilet. THAT can't be good for your "system".

I want one of those. I cringe to sit on cold toilet seats.

Actually, you are more advanced than North Americans. They only use dry paper to smear the poop all over their bums and into their hair in their butts (men). Europeans have bidets. Unfortunately, although first fell in love with the bidets in europe (Italy) you are required to use your hand to wash out the poop from your bum... And when you think about that.... it's just about as disgusting!
