Mink intelligence
Rare video of a wild mink hunting, killing a small rodent, and eating it. Also shown in slow motion. Unusual close view.

The mink is shown catching and eating its prey in real time in the first part of the video. The animal is so quick that this is difficult to see. The same capture is shown again in slow motion at the end of the video.

This semi-aquatic environment is the natural habitat for the mink, which normally eats small shoreline creatures.

The mink (Mustela vison) is a furry, dark-colored, semi-aquatic, carnivorous mammal, that belongs to the family Mustelidae.

  • European Mink have ...

European Mink have slender, flexible bodies, bushy tails, and webbed paws. They have a sleek summer coat, and a darker, denser, winter coat, better suited to low temperatures. Their eyesight is generally poor, so that they rely heavily on their superior sense of smell while hunting.[1]

  • There are two ...

There are two living species of "mink," the American Mink and the European Mink. The extinct Sea Mink is related to the American Mink, but is much larger. All three species of mink are dark-colored, semi-aquatic, carnivorous mammals of the family Mustelidae, which also includes the weasels and the otters.
