Watch a US Airways Boeing 767, a Kalitta Boeing 747 Jumbojet and a BMI (British Midland) A319 take off from Amsterdam airport Schiphol.
It was a bright and beautiful day for spotting aircraft; just kind of chilly and very windy. Runway 06-24 (Kaagbaan) is still the best runway for spotting but it seems that the spotting there will be over pretty soon as Schiphol airport is expanding.

  • Just some easy ...

Just some easy things: -100's & -200's have a short hump, -300's & 400's have a longer hump (only exception are KLM's SUD's, but there out of business arldy so that doesnt matter). Only -400's have winglets, while only 100's have three windows on the upper deck. The 100B and almost all 200's have multiple (10 or so) windows on the upper deck, while the later models have 18 I believe.
And the 100's have old engines, P&W JT9D's.

    To Bananas:
Good comment, this Kalitta Air 747 is way back from the 70s. It is a 100, and it still flies!! I can't imagine the fuel burn on those machines, but I guess Don keeps roaring 'em up...

The back part of the engines on the 747-100 is pretty different too. It's longer in comparison to the front of the engine.

The Kalitta 747 in video looks like a 747-100. It's only got 3 windows on the top deck. The reg# N717CK on back, says it was a 747-100 built in 1971
