    This actually has worked for me. I rent *a lot* of netflix movies and it has yet to fail me. You have to give a couple minutes worth of rubbing with the banana peel. Keep in mind, this is for surface scratches - no method will solve the problem for deep scratches. Using the wax from a candle (unlit of course) works as well. The idea is to be able to fill the scratches with wax so the laser can read the disc. That's why the banana peel works well - they are waxy.
