I understand that the Patriot Act 2(the new and improved version)can and is being used against alleged everyday run of the mill criminals. That is, arrest without charges and being held indefinitely without legal counsel and being labeled as an enemy combatant for allegedly committing a crime such as trafficing marijuana or whatever. Constant debate is a good thing. Both Lincoln and FDR placed temporary restrictions on some civil liberties in time of war. However, the WOT is unlike any war we've ever fought and will likely continue for generations. Consequently, it's good that the Patriot Act is temporary in nature and it should/will be carefully reviewed in the next administration. I do find it ironic that it's the Left raising cane here; IMO if it was a Dem president we wouldn't be hearing many complaints.

As a law student I will tell you that you are incorrect. The patriot act allows for anyone in the executive branch to declare ANY american citizen an unlawful enemy combatant and have you imprisoned in solitary confinment without contact to family or attorney for up to 3 years.
