Heavy rain in the coalfields of Kentucky and West Virginia caused severe flash flooding, especially in communities below mountaintop removal coal strip mining" Varney, Pie Gilbert and Musick WV were especially hard hit. In Kentucky, Breathitt, Floyd and Pike Counties have been severely flooded. Hundreds of homes have been destroyed in Breathitt County.
