Taking a logical approach to troubleshooting laptop display failures can save you time and money. Many people purchase expensive LCD replacements when the problem is a $20 inverter, the part that powers the backlight that lights up the LCD. The flowchart is from my book, "The Laptop Repair Workbook"

  • thanks again! good ...

thanks again! good to know i should get the same model. i was wondering if i could use another LCD panel as long as it was the same res and size (15.4", 1280x800). i guess the issue is with the connections and cable positioning, right?

for now, the mark hasnt' grown since 2 days ago so maybe it has stopped leaking! and if it DO gets worse, guess i will just use an external monitor, since i don't move the laptop that much. is any risk of the 'leaking' damaging more parts if i don't fix it soon?

  • diegodd, Nothing ...

    diegodd,

Nothing you can do about a failing LCD, at least that I know of. Check eBay for dead laptops with good screens, but get the EXACT same model.

  • so i guess i will ...

so i guess i will have to change it? damn. i hope it is not expensive.

is there at least a way to stop the 'leaking' so it doesn't spread wider? or i'm doomed till the black lines fill the width of the screen? =(

at least now the lcd its pretty usable, though its not nice to see the lines, i can stand it for a while, as long as it doesn't spread a lot more.

    any suggestion?

    thanks by the way =)

    diegodd,

It's not the backlight or the inverter, it's the LCD.

  • i have a problem w ...

i have a problem w my laptop lcd. It started with a few BLACK pixels, but they started to spread along the screen, horizontally. I thought they were DEAD pixels, but then i noticed that i can actually SEE the pixel colors behind the black lines (though very dim). could it be only a backlight problem. or as i fear, the liquid is leaking, cuz the lines get longer (horizontaly) each day. it started with just like 3 pixels, but now i have a nasty 6" by 10 pixels height black line. what do i do?
    thx
