Hi, the difference is just in techinque. The Mesh tool helps you to create in a very very simple way complex gradients. When u just trace with pen tool it's harder to make some well faded gradients.

what is the difference of using the mesh and adapt it to the image or just tracing over the image?

well, at the time, I didnt know how to use the pen tool very effectively, but I have it now. I think this method is better, though

I've been also tracing a shape with pen tool first and then mesh. The video is really helpful!

Hi mate....yes u have to start from a rectangle 'couse this help to make better meshes and control their shape.

Nice tutorial. Now I understand what they mean when they say to start from a square or rectangle. I have been using the pen tool to create my shapes, which sometimes result in some crazy meshes.
