  • unbelievable, note ...

unbelievable, note that in no5 he does the correct bowing, three notes on the down bow one note on the up bow. Many others just do four separate bows, one per note(up,down,up,down, etc). Very impressed by these recordings.

  • It's a real pity ...

It's a real pity that Perlman, fantastic player that he is, just doesn't have this awareness of what is a truly beautiful tone.

  • this is probably ...

this is probably the best recording of the caprices, in caprice 24, i like how by instinct he knows how much pressure to apply on his bow, and this song is pants when not played in the way that he plays it.

  • I do believe they ...

I do believe they were intended to be exercises. If memory serves me correct I believe he wasn't going to publish them in the first place either nor were they meant to be played in public but he was talked into it and they ended up becoming one of his most famous pieces. Regardless of their origin I do agree that they are, indeed, truly artistic and are music to my ears.

Was the 24 caprices really just meant to be exercises? I think it's music. Art! not just violin exercises.
