So sight reading magically changes the acoustics?

I'm not dissing anything, but your argument doesn't make sense paired with the other arguments. I've never been to see them live, so...

  • Not trying to hate ...

Not trying to hate on VGL, I love their work and I think what they've done is so awesome.

But when I was at their London show in 2007, sitting 6 rows from the front, I did start to ask myself "Are they using a backing track?"

I've been to a lot of Orchestra shows and the acoustics just didn't sound like they were all done live. It did seem off.

Might be wrong, Might be right, regardless they put on an awesome show, I'll be going again this year and if you haven't already been, check em out.

  • to all the haters ...

to all the haters claiming that there is a backing track...

it's called sight reading. anyone who has played their instrument as long as i'm sure most of these people have, could probably get their part damn near perfect in 3 tries; especially with any professional conductor's guidance and critique.

  • I am perfectly ...

I am perfectly aware that it makes no difference to "the average listener's ears".

No, it's not disrespectful to say that about an orchestra that pretends to play.
It's perfectly deserved, and if I did the same, then I would deserve it too.

I don't expect everybody to believe me. Especially those who haven't seen VGL, who don't play in an orchestra, and don't know by heart the recording by the Tokyo philharmonic orchestra.

  • This is the True, ...

This is the True, no orchestra can play Exactly as the original recording, but they CAN get pretty damn close, at least to the average listener's ears. To say that the orchestra isn't playing is pretty disrespectful, and you yourself are a compatriot of these performers: how would like it if you were in a performance, putting your Heart and Soul into your art, and someone said afterward that you were doing squat?

I... can't say much more without being crude.

  • Perhaps it's ...

Perhaps it's because the orchestra from Ft. Wayne, Indianna S**ks , I dunno; but all the parts are played live, everything that can be.

  • I saw them ...

I saw them yesterday. Some error occured in which the speakers started cutting out and you heard static. This was during the Medal of Honor scenes. You can hear them playing, but sometimes it is along with a CD. So, yes, part of it is fake. Especially the Halo Part.

  • No orchestra can ...

No orchestra can play a song exactly like prerecorded. Even if it's the same orchestra that recorded it. I know, I play in an orchestra.
The timing, the style of the solists, the pitch, there are always differences.
So imagine if it's a totally different orchestra, and 15 years later...
Yeah, maybe they're "so good" :D Sure...

Prove it? Well I can only prove it to people who have a clue about how an orchestra works.
For those people: just compare this version to the one I mentioned.

  • The orchestra is ...

The orchestra is not actually playing.
What you hear is a recording made in 1991 by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, from their "Orchestral Game Concert"s.
    This is the track 8 of the 1st CD ( Catalog #: WPCL-560 )

I have seen a VGL concert and the only interesting proper live performance was Martin Leung (the video games pianist). The is awesome.
