Some East coast swing dancing at UWO's swing kids club! None of this is rehearsed and Melissa does a great job of following my lead, considering I haven't danced any East coast in the last few weeks. We've been working on Lindy-hop mainly this semester. lol, nice dip at the end :)

Welllll done. Fun, fun!! That band sounds so cool. I'm a silver level dancer. We call that on the east coast USA, Jitterbug or even Jive.
East coast swing is the triple steps side to side and then rock. Locations change names maybe. Anyway Thanks, is on my favorites now.

  • I-Design, nice to ...

I-Design, nice to hear someone with so much knowledge of swing speak so kindly! I dance and teach Lindy and Balboa, however my 1st 3 years were just what these 2 were doing. I loved it. Seems most of us old hands are not kind to those coming behind us. Glad you are!

That said, the couple in the front has done a fair amount of dancing together (or social dancing), and has what seems to be an excellent sense of connection, styling, and momentum - well done you two :)

  • They're also ...

They're also throwing in some charleston variations (as in modern lindy charleston, not ballroom/20s charleston), which is very popular in fast modern Lindy, and they also tend to dance it without much attention to a slot (which might make it look a bit like lindy savoy style).

  • What it looks like ...

What it looks like they're doing is a stylized version of rock jive (also known as jitterbug, but that name also means other things) - a simpler form dance that is closely related to east coast swing. It differs from east coast swing in that there is no triple step, and it is danced to faster music. These students are simply adding a kick variation instead of stepping to the side on the basic.

No, this isn't lindy. Lindy hop is an 8 count and this is 6.
