The Shadow of the Horse (The Black and Bukephalos)

Clips in this video are from "The black stallion" (in the film the horse called "The Black" is an Arabian stallion) and "Alexander" ("Bucephalos", in the film a Friesian stallion). Both are beautiful horses, though I prefer Friesians :-)

The black stallion (in German: Blitz, der schwarze Hengst) was one of my favorite books when I was a child....

Backgroundinformation:

Since no one could tame the animal, Philip was not interested, but his son Alexander was, and promised to pay for the horse personally should he fail to tame it. Alexander was allowed to try and surprised everyone by subduing it. Alexander spoke soothingly and turned the horse away so that the horse did not see its own shadow, which seemed to distress it, and so tamed the horse. (like "Alec", the boy, did on the desert isle)


Es wird erzählt, dass dieses Pferd Philipp II., dem Vater Alexanders, zum Kauf angeboten wurde, aber dass niemand es zu reiten vermochte. Alexander hatte die Versuche der anderen beobachtet und festgestellt, dass das Pferd Angst vor dem Schatten von Reiter und Pferd hatte. Er stellte es so, dass es seinen Schatten nicht sehen konnte, und es gelang ihm dadurch, das Pferd zu reiten.
(wie es auch Alec- seinem Namensvetter- auf der Insel gelang, den Schwarzen zu zähmen).
