Watch as Patrick Raycraft, a Photojournalist for the Hartford Courant gets a thrilling ride in the two seat U. S. Navy Blue Angel F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet with Lt. Cdr. Kevin J. "Kojack" Davis, Blue Angel #7.
The first week of March, Pat was in El Centro, California, photographing the winter training of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Squadron. Pat flew almost 55 minutes in the cockpit. This is an amazing video of the highlights of that flight, taken with a cockpit camera recording directly on to a DVD recorder in the two seat F/A-18.

A sad update: U.S. Navy Lt. Cdr. Kevin J. "Kojack" Davis was killed in a tragic accident while performing in a F/A-18 Hornet fighter jet as Blue Angel #6 at the end of a Blue Angels air show Saturday April 21, 2007 at the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort in South Carolina.
The Pilotcast extends condolences to Lt. Cdr Davis' family and the Blue Angels team.
Pat Raycraft revisited on Pilotcast #56 "Tribute to a Navy Aviator" to talk about the loss of Lt. Cdr. Davis and Pat's history with Cdr. "Axel" "Boss" Foley and The Blue Angels.
Just a question, at the end of that video what was the ground saying to the pilot, sounded like the pilot got irritated?

By MerkabaStar [Affiliate User] 1189167613 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWell, that's true, but that's not what I was talking about....
I was talking about handling and switches. Not G's
flexing the legs and neck muscles with that breathing technique helps keep the blood from being forced into the legs and lower extermities so that you don't pass out. Not many roller coasters undergo that heavy of G-forces but on occassion some do. If your legs feel tingly, try flexing your legs/butt and flexing your neck muscles. It helps!

By firefighterpilot1 [Affiliate User] 1188943972 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveDoin the "hick" maneuver on take off hahaha.
By firefighterpilot1 [Affiliate User] 1188943223 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeummm G-forces the feel the same, no matter what plane you're in.
By firefighterpilot1 [Affiliate User] 1188943073 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveNo. It takes a lot more time to get used to things. In a car, everythings basically in the same place and in the same shape, and there's less of things. In a plane, there's a lot more, and everything moves around and looks different. So if you'd mastered the F/A-18, you could probably fly in a mig or a su, but until you know where everything is, not very well. Also, since some planes handle a lot better than others, you have to get used to that.

By mikedub1219 [Affiliate User] 1188747066 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveIs flying an unknown aircraft as easy as driving a new car for experienced fighter pilots?
Could for example a western pilot jump in a mig-29 or Su-27 and fly it?
excellent video! 5/5 stars

By Dom1n1cki [Affiliate User] 1188437825 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveNegative - Blue Angels use neither masks nor G-suits. They use muscle control and breathing techniques to do what the suits do and they don't fly high enough to require the masks.
By KJDfan [Affiliate User] 1188407679 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemovePilots use masks that prevent passing out and they use G-pants and jackets that help too..

special breathing techniques and flexing of the legs help prevent pass outs. nice video.
