While most people understand the importance of cleaning the bore on their bolt action rifle, many don't know the process for cleaning the action and chamber. Larry Potterfield, CEO and Founder of MidwayUSA, walks the viewers through the complete process of cleaning the action and chamber in this GunTec video. Using a Tipton brand action cleaning kit, he is able to clean areas that were previously considered hard to reach. This kit includes a specially designed tool that allows the user to turn a cotton swab inside the lug recesses of the action. The same tool is also used to clean the lug raceways. Once these areas are clean all that's left is to clean and lubricate the contact surfaces on the bolt.

    You need to disasemble the bolt and clean the firing pin spring. It can get pretty dirty with hot gases and debris blowing threw it. Also the burnt particles will collect in there and get between the firing pin spring and cause the spring to not act consistantly which can effect accuracy by allowing the firing pin to react at different speeds.
