  • Endangered?

Alligator Gar are not endangered! They aren't considered a "game" fish either. They are extremely abundant in S.E. Texas. I live on Cedar Bayou, they eat almost everything in water, including Alligators! Some here are so big they've nearly knocked me out of my kayak, when they roll.

Yes, they have attacked people. There's a well documented case from Lake Charles, Louisiana. They eat a lot of dogs, too.

I find it hard to believe the state record is out of the Rio Grande, since they're thrive in water with low oxygen content. I'd be willing to bet there are much bigger gar in some of the back waters near the mouth of the Trinity River.

Looks like fun, I'm going to rig up one of my old bows and go bust some ass!

  • A lil trick that i ...

A lil trick that i do, i don't use bowfishing reels i take a closed face reel like a zebco or w/e you prefer and put like 90lb or 100lb test gorilla line on it, get 2 screw clamps or they do have a balance weight that looks like a lower part of the rod where you can just tighten the reel on, but if you don't have that get 2 screw clamps and clamp the reel onto the balance weight you already have on there, went bow fishing the other day and got a few gars down here behind the dam.

  • Man I hope these are not endangered

I enjoy fishing and hunting myself, but I'm in hopes that you guys are at least eating these fish or doing something with them. I think these fish are a great asset to our enviroment and a very old species! Thanks
