Deputy Kevin Stabins didn't believe the crying woman. He told investigators he thought she was lying to get out of a speeding ticket and that his actions in arresting her were "fine."
His dashboard camera showed otherwise.
It showed the Hillsborough County deputy yanking a sobbing Melissa J. Langston out of a car in a hospital parking lot Nov. 1 and using his elbow to shove her over the trunk to handcuff her.
Langston, 37, sobbed and pleaded with the deputy that her father had suffered a heart attack and that she was trying to find him.
"And I told you not to go anywhere, didn't I?" Stabins said. "Now you're not going to see him because you're going to jail. Not smart. Not smart. Have a seat, you're under arrest."
Officials said Stabins' lack of compassion and use of "excessive and unnecessary" force in the arrest Nov. 1 brought him a five-day suspension without pay. The recommendation came after a recent Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office disciplinary hearing.
All charges against Langston were dropped.
Stabins, 29, is a good deputy who "used poor judgment in that situation," Sheriff David Gee said Wednesday.
"I understand that it's difficult when you get out there," Gee said. "I give deputies the ability to use discretion [in making arrests]. He didn't use that here."
Clocked Doing 63 In A 35 mph Zone
Stabins had tracked Langston traveling 63 mph in a 35 mph zone. He turned on his cruiser's flashing lights and sirens as she neared University Community Hospital, and the distraction caused her to miss two entrances, officials said.
The video shows Stabins walking up to Langston's car, and her saying she was looking for the emergency room entrance.
Stabins made no attempt to verify the woman's story about her father's heart attack and asked for her ID. Langston asked if Stabins could issue her the ticket in the emergency room, but Stabins returned to his patrol car to write the citation
You have nullified any point that you were trying to make by the use of those racist and sexist remarks. The police officer was found to be at fault because he made terrible decisions on the scene and due to the brutality he COMMITTED on this lady.

Officers like that are clearly not fit to live.
No wonder I have no respect for the police. Even if she broke the law, I DON'T CARE. She was trying to reach her father, who could have been DYING!
Personally, I would have taken a page from Jack Bauer's book, and bit a huge chunk out of the pig's neck.
The gangbangers should go on the beat, and butcher Mr. Stabins like the pig he is -- hang him upside down and cut his throat! Squeal piggy squeal!
that fine police officer did everything right and that low life criminal skank was wrong. she was breaking the law driving like a maniac and could've killed someone. there was nothing she could have done for her half dead father. that officer should've received a reward for his execellent police work. he should've slammed that cracker honky b*tch head into the windshield and hauled her stupid ass to jail where she belongs...hahaha
By w1s4life [Affiliate User] 1178430333 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWell, while I have to agree that the officer certainly should have pulled her over, since she was breaking the law, I think he handled the matter very much the wrong way. There was no need to manhandle her, or to insult/aggrivate her by making comments about how she was going to jail and wasnt going to see her father. There was a time when she would have gotten escorted there, now she gets yanked from her car, bodyslammed, and insulted. Rediculous.

for some reason that part is missing here, but you can easily find the complete video via a quick google search on langston+stabins keywords ;)
(cnn also has the complete video, mlust be in their archives now though)
I do see that the cop was a bit of an asshole, but the woman was speeding! Why didn't she stop in the first place and tell the officer that her father had a heart attack? She was putting other people's lives in danger.

By tlkovacoh [Affiliate User] 1178415886 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removefear614 continuation - The "Life Support System" for a TRAFFIC cop is his/her ticket book - without it, he is like a Marine without his rifle. Police officers are authorized to be "flexible" - a TRAFFIC cop is not! His/her primary goal is to write as many tickets as possible during his/her shift for the purpose of "CAREER ENHANCEMENT" - that's the two words that replaced the obsolete word for QUOTA.
By aboonski [Affiliate User] 1178415269 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removefear614, this is in response to a post you made 2 hours ago. We can only ASSUME the lady was going as fast as the officer indicated - he might have used his "closing speed" to EXAGGERATE her speed. Have you EVER had a speeding ticket? If so you should know that your "judge and jury" is the traffic cop - i this case, the cop PRE-JUDGED this woman before he ever got her license and registration. Tickets are all about money and are the "bread and butter" of most traffic cops.

this was a life/death scenario. she wasn't contesting the speeding ticket - she broke the law, BUT she also outlined the situation to the officer & he REFUSED to help, so she made off on her own towards the hospital parkinglot, and rightfully so
guess they take any trash into the police nowadays. hope that s.o.b burns in hell
He was doing his job. She was speeding, almost double the speed limit, and she was risking her own life, and the lives of everyone else on the road. Speed limits are posted for a REASON, and she was pulled over for a REASON. She decided to run before the officer even had a chance to get out of the car with her ticket, and she went to jail. Her own fault.
