We are approaching an evolutionary event horizon, where the organic and the synthetic, the virtual and the "real", are merging together into an operational ecology, an existence morphology for which there is no precendent in the history of which we are currently aware, catalyzed by nanotechnology - www.historianofthefuture.com
GOOD POINT.
Yeah-
I can't wait till this new age arrives-
there's so many possiblities.
"Ok but you forgot about the fact of how people could abuse it."
Show me where I've forgoten about it. I've stated many times it's a concern.noted. so is dynamite and nuclear bombs and knives. some more dire than others. If the terrorists winoout before we exit the biosphere. that's our F**king fate. A comet could slam us a nova. you rate the risk and deal with it. nano WILL arrive. Terrorists WILL try to use it. now, alternatives to death are...?
Ok but you forgot about the fact of how people could abuse it.
Terroism is a good example.
There are more advantages than disadvantages but the disavantages could be dire.
not just all that Colombian459, aside from (because of) all the wonderous possibilities of nanotech, how could a worldwide moratorium possibly work? could you stop every tinkerer in the world? I don't think so. So go forward we must. And learn how to use it well for the good of mankind and the world.

new technology raises new concerns and problems that are even greater than previous episodes.
but I don't think that we should stay in the same position forever- we should take the risk.
what do people think of borg like lifesytles?
If nanotech goes the way I expect it to it soulf be possible to not just clone but make an actuall identical copy totally indistinguisable such that to say one is original is semantics.
Or you could make 10K copies. They could all be in perpetual link mode where updates of cognitions are constant. What would be the significance of the death of one of these 'units'? would it be like us getting a scratch?
it's an understood and plausible aspect of nanotech. I supect you raise this as an issue of concern to you. Are ther ways to mitigate a GG outbreak? Would having humanity spread throughout the galaxy ameliorate GG problems? Privacy will a thing of the past anyway so planetwide GG sensors that summon a nuke or thermite bomb or similar may find ways to deal with GG. If we don't leave the SS then nova will kill us anyway right?

yea i guess.
u believe in grey goo?
whatever isn't strictly physically impossible, everything else is up for grabs.

what wonders do you think nanotech will bring us as a species?
sooner if you lend a hand.
By damianpoirier [Affiliate User] 1198719193 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removemaybe like in 20-40 yrs, i think.
By Colombian459 [Affiliate User] 1198710819 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down Removeapparently not soon enough.
