This is a 70 second video and sound clip which highlights the severe EXTINCTION threats to this Leatherback Turtle; the MOST endangered of all turtle species.
Commercial fishing by over 6,000 long line boats which hang over 6 MILLION hooks each day to snare any marine creature that swims by AND on the beach slaughters --- (WHILE THE LEATHERBACK IS STILL ALIVE).
Our non profit ALL VOLUNTEER IRS Certified Foundation needs YOUR Donation help to allow us to complete our 2009 research activities on the remote Indonesian beaches and to also oppose actions here in USA by the Commercial fishing industry who want to fish in near shore protected enviromnetal protected areas which are off limits to commercial fishing.
THIS Leatherback Turtle is of the "family" which swims all the way from its nesting beaches in Indonesia, to forage on jelly fish along the Pacific States and thereby allow the baby fish to go to sea without being killed by the swarms of jelly fish.
The Leatherback population has been so devistated that now, not enough Leatherbacks survive to maintain the balance of Nature. Food fish stocks are rapidly disappearing. On June 18 a fresh caught wild salmon in Newport, Oregon sold for $25. a POUND.
We are working to REVERSE EXTINCTION at the nesting beaches. We NEED your help, RIGHT NOW, with Donations to allow us to continue the research this season. Unlike most appeals for money and mailings you receive, 100% of Donated Funds go direct to the Foundation tasks. NO one gets a pay check. We pay our own expenses out of pocket as we travel.
For more information, go to our web site: www.leatherbackturtles.org. LOTS of information included, including our just released Volume 3 of the NewsLetter. To DONATE, pull the tab marked DONATE. Scroll down and find the blanks to complete to send us a Donation via PayPal. (Master Card or VISA). --- or just send us a check. Address is in web site.
Want to go see, talk to and sit beside a Giant Leatherback as you will see in the clip? We have open spaces on Expedition # 2 (July 28 to August 7). We are also accepting deposits for our 2010 Expeditions.
Advance Thanks for your responding help, Larry McKenna, PhD Founding Director, S.O.L.O.
Leatherback eats jellyfish as much as their own weight a day , since one leatherback weights around 500 - 1000 kg and one jellyfish (without water ) weight very little , just imagine how much they could eat in just a day :D

I've seen this kind of turtle lay eggs and have helped babies reach the ocean. I encourage all to support this organization and others dedicated to helping leatherback turtles survive.
