Baby Swimming Survival Video

Parents teaching their child to be independet surely don't have 'lazy asses'! Lazy are those who let children watch TV the whole day-it might be safe though! You said checking on kids once in a while? How about the time between? To know how to behave in case of danger is much better strategy than not to know! Why do we teach kids 'not to talk to strangers? Because we can't be always there and we want to be sure they know what to do. This is the same!

this video gave me anxiety. seeing the baby in the water crying out for help like that make me cry... i just want to jump in and grab him.

Well you probably don't have any children, because accidents do happen, especially with small children who can sneak out without even you even realizing!

You know? Most animal's offsprings can defend themselves against many things, why can't human babies do that too?

When i was three i fell in my grandmas pool on the deep side and my uncle heard me fall in and jumped over a 6ft fence to come save me and he dove in and saved my life and from that day on i call him to thank him for saving me because i wouldn't be alive right now!!!!!

ya my frieds brother was 4 years old and he drowned. he was swimming in a river and he slit his though on a rock and he filled up with sand witch forsed to the bottem.

um, the child had taken certified classes to learn what to do. he was surrouned by people and he was in no danger. The would make sure of that before. Like i said, they didn't just thow the baby in there without training first. He had taken classes!

but how to train my baby like that?is there any method that i can teach him myself?

I think it's pretty obvious that the baby is not distressed. At the end of the clip the baby is so happy. If he was upset he would be crying not smiling. You have to remember it's not the first time and he's probably used to it.
I love how he calms himself in the water.
I've heard of children falling in pools while adults are all standing around talking and drowning. It only takes 20-30 seconds for a baby to drown.

Today as a 4 year old, this little boy (his name is Miles) is a tremendous swimmer. He swims most everyday in the backyard pool or at an aquatic center but he really prefers the Ocean. To say that he loves the water is an understatement. He is an accomplished snorkeler and can safely dive down 15 feet to see the fish he is learning to identify.

The video was scripted and shot to be part of the Pediatric Grand Rounds presentations Dr. Barnett uses at major children's hospitals throughout the United States to educate the health care professionals as part of their continuing medical education.

As part of ISR lessons, parents are involved in the water once their baby is skilled, for at-home practice only and you see that they have practiced at home the end of the clip, when his father picks him up.

The 11-month-old baby had 3 weeks of ISR lessons prior to having his simulated self rescue while fully clothed skills videotaped. It is a re-enacted drowning scenario that happened to a family whose baby was not skilled and therefore drowned. In the scene we taped, both his mother and father were present at the taping along with several other adults and his ISR Instructor.

Keeping the baby in there for a couple minutes and having it scream and yell tells you that the toddler is ready for when there is no person standing by. I think this is important for all households with toddlers that have pools, lakes, rivers, etc around them.
