Are you sure Queen Emma was fond of this song or even heard it for that matter? Aloha 'Oe was written in 1878 and even though she died in 1885, i'm not sure that the relationship Emma had with the Kalakaua dynasty was a good one.

I am still waiting for a better close-up.. Looks like Tia put on a pound or two.

I would just like to take the opportunity of responding to you Kim4kittens , you are of course correct is was Queen Liliuokalani who wrote this song I was pointing out in my post that Queen Emma would have approved as she was very fond of this song. I feel your comments and attack was not needed where is your Aloha spirit.

I read that as a small child, her younger sister couldn't pronounce "Althea"- it came out "Tia". I also read that she chose Carrere from Barbara Carrera. But that which we call a rose, by any other name, would surely smell as sweet.
I think she is very beautiful, very talented, and she seems very nice. I understand she recently became a Mom (and thereby improved the gene pool.)

excuse me but i would just like to say that this was not written by queen emma. it was written by queen lydia liliuokalani WHO WAS THE LAST REIGNING QUEEN OF HAWAII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yea, she wrote like 150 songs so whoever thought that this had anything to do with queen emma...you are seriously messed up man! thank you:D oh, and booya...i did a project on it!!!

They imigrated to Hawaii in late 19th century. For an example the hawaiian singer Glen Medeiros - Medeiros is a Portuguese name, and lots of other examples of last names of hawaiian surfers. Our people have a blood connection.

Aloha from Hawai'i! Her real name is: Althea Rae Duhinio Janairo - I'm not sure where her stage name came from but I did know the meaning of Tia in Spanish - but I didn't know it was the same in Portuguese. Mahalo for sharing...
