You ppl can talk all you want abouth stealth but in 1999 in Serbia F-117 got shot down bu a sowiet SAM missle from 1960s if that is stealth what do you think the chance your "Stealth" planes hawe against a newest models of SAM?

It F-117 is and will always be an excellent stealth bomber. Only one got shot down because the idiot pilot flew the same flight path and got detected. Its going to all retired in April 2008 because we have better planes like the B-2, and the F-22 Raptor and in a few years the F-35 Lightning II when it comes into service.

Yes you did shoot down one but the other one got damaged and made it back. The idiot pilot that got shot down flew the same flight path which allowed it to be tracked SA-3, but still we have something even better the F-22 Raptor and in a few years the F-35 Lightning II.

It was actually projected that the Russia could destroy the United States military in a mere 17 days. The US was relying on something big and thanks to the SKUNK WORKS this thing saved our asses. I actually know a guy who was an electrical engineer and worked on this project as well as other various planes, such as the F-22 and all the UCAV's.

Imagine how gutted a fighter pilot would be if he was shot down by The Mighty Hunter. I once read that the capability was added during the Falklands War in the hope of shooting down Argentine Boeing 707 maritime patrol aircraft.

well... this jets been in the air for a long time now... eventually it got shot down.. but who cares took them quite some time to beats its stealth 25 years of domination is good enough for the millions of dollars that it cost... it also saved a lot of lives...

subsonic!!! can fly as the same speed as a normal jet!!! 950 km/h or .9 match thats it!! but still be a excellent attacker but the problem it's that is so expensive!! that is the reason for usaf use more the a-10 than f117

they are actually extremly uselful and stealth isn't everything. The F-117 was actually quite good. They accounted for a mere 3 % of the allied forces in operation Gulf storm. Despite this they accounted for 35% of night time casualties among Iraqi forces and other various soft targets. They also had hit rates of 75% in this war. See lockheed martin's website.

flitzer888. I'll type slowly so you understand. By saying 'F117's record speaks for itself' I meant look at the amount of F117s lost in combat during it's 25+ year career. If you understand that bit, now compare it to other combat aircraft of the same age. Perhaps more appropriately, compare it's record to the attack aircraft it superceded, those that saw service in Vietnam. Please try not to be such a moron in future.

The F117's strength is it's tiny radar signature. You could hang bombs and missiles on it, but then it would hardly be stealthy if you did. Why use a non-stealthy configured F117, with it's limited payload, when you can use a non-stealthy A10?
