This is a video of my brother Darren at a freestyle tournament back in 1984. He was 15 wrestling in the cadet division. You can tell by the singlets and my mullet (I am sitting matside) that this was the 80's. This is the cleanest suplay I have ever seen. The poor kid stood right up into it and over he went for 4 points and the match. Enjoy. By the way, the guy in the yellow Schurr wrestling sweatshirt walking up into the stands is Luis. He was a tough guy then and now serves our country as a veteran Navy seal. My cousin Frankie supplies the colorful commentary.

yes, but today's singlets look kinda Gomer Pyle, actually very 1920's swimsuit style. I'll take these "80's" singlets over today's.

  • Sorry to hear about ...

Sorry to hear about your injury. I hope (and I would suspect) that your elbow will improve quite nicely. The rust, creaks and hesitation will them be mostly in your head. You won't know if its an issue until the first time you get slammed on your elbow. How you respond will tell the story of your recovery (or retirement). Just get on the mat - don't think - and go for it.

  • Don't say he S**ks ...

Don't say he S**ks - he was likely a newbie to freestyle and just didn't know the rules differences between H.S.and freestyle. I was in a "soupe" zone that freestyle season, looking for ways to improve my throwing game as we appoached the state tourney. Yes, this kid standing up [why?!?] was a gift, so I took it without hesitation. And thanks - I liked that throw too.

Yo, it sounds like what i did to my elbow is the same as yours. I was just wondering was it hard getting used to wrestling again, (My arm is really stiff and i feel like it wont be the same)Especially since now I will be more careful and much less aggresive

  • Yes, that's me. I ...

Yes, that's me. I hit another sup 2 matches later in this tournament on the way to the title. Unfortunately, I severely fractured my elbow the following week, had pins inserted. I came back for an incredible 2 year run, but by the end my elbow was basically thrashed. So I went to college (USC) and law school (UC Berkeley), and now I practice law in L.A. Wrestling is THE BEST preparation for success in life. The courtroom is not nearly as intimidating as the mat. Best sport in the world.
