I bought a used pc and tried to use the number given to me with it. It was counterfeit. I only paid $50 for it so no real loss. So I videoed it to show you what happens when your XP oem number is bunk.

That is a compaq. I knew I was using a bootleg of Win XP just wanted to see what happens when you try to activate it. Now I know. It sucks but we can't really blame Microsoft, I broke down and bought a legal copy to get updates and whatnot. Was worth it to have XP just work. The PC in the video is a secondary pc and is running Windows 2000, bootleg of corse LOL.

I have an advice. Do NOT EVER buy used PC for 2 reasons. 1) you don't know what ppl put on it 2)PC product key could be pirated just like this video. Be smart, save money and get licensed so you don't worry about pirated software on your PC

It's what happens when you try to activate a known pirated copy of XP. This sometimes does happen on legitimate copies of XP (about 1% of the copies I do believe)
