My rarest video of cajun accordionist Nathan Abshire. Here playing his famous Pine Grove Blues (Ma' Negresse).Filmed at Fred's Lounge in Mamou, Louisiana in 1976. Features a small ending clip of another song(Been told it is "Allons A Lafayette"). The interview is of famous radio announcer and cajun historian Revon Reed. He is also broadcasting in the scene. Very rare video, I hope you all enjoy it.
Nathan and the Pine Grove Blues is as Cajun as it comes, his passion and style is evident in this clip. Thanks for this classic "Slow-Drag", posting.

He was explaining the meaning of "ma negresse" as a term of endearment for one's woman, wife, or sweetheart. This was also touched upon at the beginning of the clip by Revon Reed.

There is still today, something very special about the old cajun music. Drive Highway 13 through Eunice and Mamou and is still thrives. I am a Proud 30 year COONASS from Evageline Parish. At Mardi Gras every year you will see beautiful 20 year women along side 68 year old women dancing in the streets to Nathan Abshire, Ire Lejune, and DL Menard. It is in your blood. Cold beer and Boudan. Forever Louisiana.

On guitar is Preston Manuel, fiddle Sady Courville, triangle Savy Augustine and of course,Nathan on accordion. Also seen in the background (green jumpsuit) is Ed or Bee DesHotels, local Mamou musicians. They were identical twins.

By DonJulioBlanco2002 [Affiliate User] 1205124278 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveWhat a treasure and a treat. The guitar player looks to be Preston Manuel, and if I had to guess, the fiddle player is Sady Courville, though I cannot be sure.
Whoever had the foresight to film this in 1976, thank you. Almost like being there! No doubt Nathan and company would be surprised to look some 32 years in the future and see this video playing for all the world to see. Magnifique et bien bonne!
I want to thank you on behalf of Nathans family. I was able to relay these videos to them. You are a true blessing to them. God Bless you & thank you.
By angel4127 [Affiliate User] 1204631144 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThank you very much. If this is from 197506, it is just the kind of KEUN Mamou Cajun Hour I used to hear on the radio when I first started listening in earnest to this kind of music. Yes, Nathan Abshire at Fred's Lounge with Sady Courville and Preston Manuel! Thanks so much for posting this!!! I love the ending with Nathan clowning around on the accordion. The audience is mesmerized and the cheers at the end tell the story. A treasure for sure!

He was SUCH an underrated musical artist. I wish I could have seen him in person or grasped the importance of his contribution to the cajun culture sooner than I did.

Thanks for this; it's a treasure, for sure.
The other song, at the beginning of the clip, is the tail-end of "Let's Go to Lafayette", which i can't spell in French, but thats what it means in English.
