More PT for my healing ankle - broken 20 September 2008 (Tibia and Fibula right ankle).
It will take one year for my ankle to fully heal. Each day I have a routine for my personal
physical therapy. I hope this will help you if you are feeling discouraged about healing because
you can do this too! If you do not have equipment, walk....walk....walk....walk all you can. Do not use too much weight, build up to a comfortable feeling or you will injure your break/fracture again.
For anyone wondering about any of my 'ankle' videos - yes, that is a tattoo (body art) of my once-beloved goat, Victoria, customized on my right upper ankle. I did not have surgery on my break and did not lose my body art.

  • Personally, I think ...

Personally, I think eight hours of walking at night when you are recovering from surgery and learning to walk again is too much. Have you talked with your doctor to see if a limitation can be placed on the amount of time you are on your foot? You might be doing damage to your foot.

  • Your doctor is ...

Your doctor is correct. Until you are able to put weight on your foot you will not be able to build up the muscle lost during the time your leg was idle. Slowly build up a routine. Go VERY slow and each day try to walk with the walking boot on just a little more than the day before. The walking boot will provide support for your leg and the movement will begin to rebuild the muscle.

  • Take it slow ...

Take it slow because it takes about one good year for everything to heal back. Good luck to you and speedy healing!
