This song is an upbeat departure from my other postings. Recorded in late August 1960 during the "Sinatra's Swingin' Session!!!" album recordings, which was one of Sinatra's last set of recordings for Capitol, "Hidden Persuasion" would not be released until July 1962 when it appeared on the "Sinatra Sings of Love and Things" singles compilation album. The song can now be found as a bonus track on the "Sinatra's Swingin' Session!!! and More" CD, and in the 4-disc "Capitol Singles Collection." "Hidden Persuasion" is one of my favorite Sinatra recordings. If you close your eyes you can see Sinatra standing at a microphone in front of a big band. He's impeccably dressed, wearing a fedora, smiling and snapping his fingers as his body swings as he gets inside the song. It's almost as if he absorbs the music and physically embraces each verse. And you can actually see all that if you really listen closely...

There's hidden persuasion within your eyes
Your charming indifference is but a disguise
I would be glad to love you if love is in the deal
But I must feel quite certain that the love is for real
Your hidden persuasion seems quite sincere
Perhaps my evasion is meaningless fear
Since every gain requires the element of chance
Here's hoping at least well find romance
Here is hoping at least well find romance...

Note: I mistakenly credited "Capital" Records in the video. The correct spelling is "Capitol."
