Hidan and co are at this point in the manga, powerful enough, to take on entire teams of 4 or more. Moreso, while Asuma does not have the other kind of long distance jutsu, he had enough open shots by the overconfident Hidan, that would have finished him. The good thing about the show is that like early DB, everyone (weaker or not) got theyr strengths to work out if given the opportunity.

asuma did not impress me at all. those chakra blades were'nt powerful enough weapons to have as your main attack.

he should have studied more ninjutsus, learned better tai jutsu and learn to work without needing Shikamaru's shadow binding jutsus.
