Thanks for the correction. K. Blow was signed to a dif label. I must have been thinking of Jam Master Jay, who Simmons did have some artistic control over.

  • Rick started Def ...

Rick started Def Jam when he was still in college. The Very first song on Def Jam was "It's yours' by T-La Rock, it was distributed on Arthur baker's Streetwise Label. If you ever seen the original release of that song, it prominently displays the Streetwise logo, and the Def Jam logo below in smaller letters. Russel and Rick became Co-Owners after Rick founded Def Jam.

I thought it was because acts he managed but had no real control over (like Run-DMC and Kurtis Blow, both signed to Profile Records, by the way), but wanted to, was the reason Russell and Rick Rubin founded Def Jam Records.

  • I see where your ...

I see where your going with this, but like i said this was hip hop, a culture beyond race. Plus this is the golden era of hip hop we are talking about. Back then we didn't have untalented gangstas that manipulate most of our mics today. Sure Kurtis Blow was one of the first emcee's to sign a deal with a major label, but even his music had logic instead of all this Im a n--ga with money bullshit. When rick produced the records, it was for the sake of art, not record sales. So what if he is white.

  • Kobraproductions, ...

Kobraproductions, You said, If it wasn't for Rick Rubin(white man) where would hip hop be!" That alone would be STUPIDITY to even question coming from someone who is black. This is why I made the defence. Black people in america have been academically deprived of a decent and proper education(business etc.), which enabled a Rick Rubin(whites) to even benefit from blacks. BLACKS DON'T NEED WHITES, WHITES NEED BLACKS! The middle class + black americans are to blame for this major problem.

  • you sound like one ...

you sound like one of those farakhan/nation of islam folks that contribute all the losses of Afro Americans upon jewish hands. Sure I am critical on jewish behavior, and don't like their polotics, and how their using America as their puppets in iraq, but this is hip hop a culture beyond race and nationality. Rick Rubin is a brilliant producer. If it wasn't for him where would hip hop be. Mc serch was jewish, and if it wasn't for him there would be no nas. Could you imagine such a world
