  • Have you ever been ...

Have you ever been kicked on the outside of your calf? It hurts just as bad. I'm just busting they guys balls who said to block with your calf and not your shin. I think what he meant to say is lifting your leg is better than getting kicked with it on the ground with weight on it.

  • If you check with ...

If you check with your knee there is a good chance of damaging your knee if it isn't pulled tight (or if they kick the sides), plus gauging where a shin is going with a small spot like the size of your knee cap doesn't seem like a good bet. Better to block with the top of your shin. Also, you said to check with the outside if you don't have time to check with the shin. Doesn't it take the same time to lift your leg either way? Might as well check with the shin. Do you agree?

  • blocking w/ the ...

blocking w/ the outside of the leg is marginally less painful than getting hit in the thigh and is pretty much done if you can't get your leg up quick enough. in my experience the best way to check is to bring your shin back and make his shin hit your knee. that not only gives you the most protection but can bust his shin up good.

  • You block leg kicks ...

You block leg kicks with the outside of your leg? Wouldn't that be just as bad as getting kicked in the thigh? Doesn't matter which muscle gets hit you'll end up with a dead leg right? I hope someone taught you to block shin to shin.
