By LinkBulletBill [Affiliate User] 1209405253 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI do agree that today's "Hip Hop" stinks. This generation isn't utilizing it's real talent. They're taking the lazy way out and getting paid by kids who don't know it's crap!
Yep, our generation was the last of the majority original artists and musicians. Sad to watch.
We do, however have some new R&B artists who are completely talented and using it. John Legend comes to mind. As does Jill Scott. There are others, but too many to mention here.
Interesting theory. Not sure I follow the reasoning behind it, though.
RocknRoll and Disco were two entirely different genres. Different purposes. Disco was for people who liked to dance to music.
Rock wasn't really. You just listened and grooved to it. I remember all the white kids walking around with tshirts saying "Disco S**ks ". Used to make me laugh every time. lol
Great post - thanks!
By outbacker1 [Affiliate User] 1209326348 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveThe Stooges and the MC5 cant compare. Rare Earth was the best band playing in Detroit in 1970!
By Motown65 [Affiliate User] 1209202604 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveCheer up! The same decrease of quality is happening to IT these days. When it finally becomes too boring to play with, people may pick up the occasional guitar, again...
Or more frequent power-cuts will bring relief.
Thanks for all those uploads. I feared I lived on an empty island but how shall I hate YouTube, now...
Wow! Had it on 45!

By guitardds [Affiliate User] 1207914765 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveAgreed - Rare Earth is a great band with real talent and chops. IMHO very few, if any, modern so-called "R&B", "Hip Hop" or "Soul" artists even come close to the soul and groove these guys lay down... nothing on the charts, anyway. For one thing, Rare Earth are actually playing their own instruments - the music's not laid down by computers, turntables and samplers, and that seems to be an increasingly rare thing these days ;)

My theory is that disco caused the dismantling of talented groups like Rare Earth. They were too advanced for record executives and the less hip listeners.
Rare Earth was blurring the genre lines in some very innovative and unique ways.
People brag about the soulfulness of Justin Timberlake, Eminem, Michael McDonald and even Sting. But Pete Rivera was a bona fide soul brother with street cred in every neighborhood; and with every race. Long Live Rare Earth!
I just checked out your website. You ROCK dude. I respect what your doing and wish you much success in doing it.
By Tickbryan [Affiliate User] 1207565849 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveYou're my age and you understand. What happened to the good music? It was our generation in time. It will never be repeated. Thank God we were there to experience it. Our generation is when Rock and Roll peaked.
By Tickbryan [Affiliate User] 1207565124 Reply Spam [+0] Moderate Up Moderate Down RemoveI used to carry that album around as if it was a backpack. :)
Then later I bought a backpack/book bag that looked just like that Rare Earth album.
Rare Earth was a very special group. Their audience was one of the most diverse audiences in all of rock.
Rare Earth was very, very special. They were easily as good as Zepplin and Hendrix.
