Holy freaking crap. What brand/model of hard drive did you take apart in this video?! I've been through my fair share of hdds, and I've NEVER seen that many platters, OR that big of magnets in the alignment coil assembly @_@

  • You can actually ...

You can actually undo torx screws with an allen key (hex key). Make sure it's EXACTLY the right size (really tight fit) or you'll end up mashing the torx head. Also it has to be the flat-ended type. Don't try the ball-ended type of hex key.

I use allens for undoing torx screws all the time for things which need a longer or narrower shaft than my torx bit set has. That shouldn't be a problem with hard drives though.

If there's a post in the middle of the screwhead it's a "security torx".

What "pits" are you talking about??
HDD are Magnetic and use magnetic pick ups

The pits you refer to are on CD or DVDs for Optical sensors. (I.R. laser, Phototransistor, reflection/refraction system)

  • Yes they are a pain ...

Yes they are a pain in the a^& but if you have them, and the time. These magnets are also flat North South so they work perfect for DIY generators. You do not waste one side as in normal Neod Magnets.
