when some people think of a web server they may thing super computer, complicated, and £££$$$. this is far from true. you can have a simple Pentium 2 computer as your web server.

here is a video to help you setup the apache web server on windows 2000 pro on your LAN. it is free for the apache server software and simple to setup.

I used the computer to talk you threw instead. it is understandable not like the Microsoft sam witch is not.

have a good time with your new server!

please remember to rate and comment this video. so i can see if any parts need changing or more explaining. thanks.

UPDATE READ
YOU CANT GET THE .MSI FILE FROM THE PAGE IN THE VIDEO YOU CAN GO HERE " http://www.apache.org/dyn/closer.cgi/httpd/binaries/win32/ "
If you have a problem with your other computer connecting to the server try this

Create an acount with DynDNS. Then click on "Add New Hostname" in your account. You will be ask to ether get a completly customised Hostname (witch you will have to pay for) OR you can get a sub hostname you can the enter in your own firs word at the top the selecting a choice of whetever ending they provide (this part is free). you will then be asked for your IP address, you can get the for whatismyip. remember to set your hub to update the setting if it can suport that.

try following " Make Your Local Apache Web Server Live To The Internet". don't worry too much about the router being slightly different you just need to find the setting in the router.

  • have you ever ...

have you ever installed apache before? some times when you uninstall you need to go and delete the rest of the apache files in the program files. if not make sure that the apache server is actually started some times this can cause an error. also check your documentroot and Directory they should be pointing to the same path, this one is most likely to be your problem. hope this helps you.

  • this is for local ...

this is for local networks. when you make it live to the internet then it might cause a risk if there was no proper firewall, sufficiently blocked ports, secured user names and password and a good anti virus software. a failure to take some of thees steps can cause the computer to be a security hazard but not because its a Microsoft windows system.
